![]() ![]() The argument from the pro side is that just because the vulnerability isnt common knowledge doesnt mean that someone somewhere isnt already exploiting it, so pro-actively looking for vulnerabilities and then bringing them to the attention of the devs so they can be patched is a beneficial practice that ultimately makes the software more secure. The argument against is usually based on the belief that a vulnerability isnt a risk if no one knows about it, and disclosing that you found a vulnerability, even if you dont disclose the how, is still bad because once the public knows it exists at all then others will go looking for it and eventually knowledge of the how will become wide-spread. PD: Dave banned me from the Steam forum because I used some sarcasm on a critic ) I still love him for selling Pavlov that cheap, thats what allows VR to grow, other devs are cool but greedy -2 Share Report Save Continue this thread level 1 1 year ago edited 1 year ago This is yet another example of the age-old debate in network security about whether or not disclosing security vulnerabilities, or even going looking for them in the first place, is good or bad. The question is, what were the intentions of the other guy He just wants to get credit as security researcher by using cheat-engine like a script kiddie, and he didnt mind to harm Pavlov in the way. Yes, Pavlov is a decent game (yes, only decent, theres better VR FPS out there), but thats it. He changes allegiances daily (first burning Oculus to the ground and demanding dev kits, then turning his back on PC over anti-cheat and stating Oculus is the way forward). He views himself as a developer that makes a game on-par with AAA studios and expects the respect of one, when he himself offers none. Share Report Save level 2 The Ghost Howls 1 year ago Completely agree with you 1 Share Report Save level 2 Rift 1 year ago That vulnerability was just a POKE for cheat-engine You really didnt know about it That guy had the intention of publishing the exploit with the name of your game like in this case I think Dave was totally aware of cheat-engine could be used, just he didnt have the resources to protect the game and finish it 0 Share Report Save Continue this thread level 1 1 year ago Look, Dave was a dick from the first response back. No one wants their game to be vulnerable to hackers, but most are and thats a fact of life that must be accepted. Its a hard game to play in VR though, because you kinda have to write a lot more custom stuff than you would in a flat game. In this case the possibility of malfunctioning or even damaging the game, which may necessitate reinstalling the game, is particularly high. This is due to the fact that they generally work with a specific version of the game and after updating it or choosing another language they may (although do not have to) stop working or even malfunction. ![]()
